Top 10 Waste Management Solutions Companies in Europe - 2022

The world generates 2.2 billion tons of waste annually, and 33 percent of it is not recycled or disposed of in an environmentally safe process, causing global warming and depletion of natural resources, reports a study by World Bank. To combat the challenge of waste, European nations are searching for improved waste collection and management methodologies while also promoting the concept of the circular economy.

Introduced to the world in 1966, the concept of the circular economy - production and consumption of goods while reusing, repairing, refurbishing, and recycling existing materials, has become the goal of world governments today. EEA and EU have adopted stringent environmental policies to reduce pollution and waste, motivating organizations to adopt secondary raw materials, recycled waste, for manufacturing goods. This key motivating factor has bolstered the requirement for efficient waste collection and recycling systems. In addition, the development and implementation of AI and IoT also play an instrumental role in the disposal and management of waste in an environmentally safe manner.

This edition of the Utilities Tech Outlook brings forth the opinions of Steve Mustow, Environmental Consulting and Consenting Director (Water) at Stantec [TSE: STN], on the best practices to control water pollution and new developments in aquatic resource management. It also features a thought leadership article on the latest trends in the waste management space by Benjamin Stanford, Ph.D., Associate Vice President, Hazen, and Sawyer. We also bring to you the “Top 10 Waste Management Solutions Providers in Europe - 2022, ” and highlights some key developments in the industry. It highlights companies like Aqwise, Montelli, and Wabio that are instrumental in transforming the waste management landscape in Europe.

We hope the valuable insights from industry thought leaders featured in this edition help you make informed decisions for your organization.
